6 Murdered In Downtown Shooting Spree

Saturday the 10th, Front Page Above Fold
By Marcus Broden
In the truest example of random violence that the Downtown area has seen in more than a few years, six people were brutally gunned down in the middle of Orange Ave. The shooter was positively identified as the same man by nearly a hundred onlookers in the packed street at approximately 11:30 last night. In the span of twenty five minutes a man, described as between 5’9” and 6’ in height with light skin and long, dark hair, with a well trimmed goatee. The man wore a black leather jacket, and used a 9mm handgun.

The motive of the killer is as yet undetermined, as the victims bore no obvious or significant common ties, and many officers and bystanders have commented that there likely is no comprehendible motive beyond mindless rage. The shooter repeatedly rounded corners, crossed Orange and selected a seemingly random vehicle, whereupon he fired a series of shots into the driver before continuing around a corner. And it is here that the tale turns odd, for upon rounding another corner from Orange, the shooter disappeared. Six times.

Though not all of the victims has yet been fully identified, the shooter has also thus far eluded an I.D. Police are urgently requesting any and all information regarding the attack.

Prospects Improve for 528

Commentaries, By Leslie Manning
Monday the 12th
Just as suddenly as the terrible conditions would seem to have come about, so too has the monumental support that the city’s residents sprung up as from nowhere. Though all of us who regularly drive the 528 know that the road conditions have rapidly deteriorated over the last months, not all of us have stepped up to help solve this annoyance. This last week alone, more than thirty prominent citizens have joined the Adopt-A-Highway program in order to repair the massive damage upon Orlando’s roadways.

Several city officials have been criticized over the past months over the conditions and policies of roadways in Orlando, but in the end it was the drivers themselves that strived to solve the issue. No less than six of the Orlando’s most well known business men, and not to mention a member of the Orlando Magic (who will remain unnamed) add their own hard earned money to the pot, raising over 3.5 million dollars to repair the road in the first days alone. Maybe our city leaders would do well to step back and take a look at what the people themselves have done to fix this situation.

Archangel Offices Broken Into 2 Dead 1 Critical

Three DragonNest Security Guards were assaulted during a break in Friday night. Authorities are withholding the names of the victims and most details of the case. They have released only the following information. The three guards were responding to the offices downtown following a silent alarm trip. They startled the burglars, two guards were killed and the third is in critical condition. OPD arrived within minutes of the security guards and found the bodies, but the burglars had made good their escape.

We asked Tom Rogers, PR Director for Archangel Orlando, about this and he was willing to expand a little.

“We have been expecting this sort of thing to occur.” Mr. Rogers said, “Unfortunately we [ Archangel ] have been attacked throughout the South East. I am just saddened at the disastrous loss of life. I knew those young men, it’s just a tragedy.”

When questioned about the attacks and the reasons behind it, Tom had this to say, “It happens everywhere. Archangel isn’t the only aid organization to be struck by vandals and thieves. It is a revenge sort of thing, we fail to help some one or perhaps they think we arrived late. Some one’s family suffers in ways they think are unjust, and truly any suffering we fail to alleviate is just horrible. Then this individual, or even I’ve heard of entire communities, they act out against the very relief org that arrived to help them. I know it sounds bizarre, but both Archangel and the Red Cross were shot at during the disaster relief expedition in the Philippines following the tsunami in ’04.”

DragonNest Security Faces Lawsuit

Front page, March 23

Following the deaths of two DragonNest Security Officers during the Archangel break in, Orlando D.A. Frenchetti has slapped DragonNest Securities Orlando with two counts of negligent homicide and has stated he will give the families of the officers whatever support they need should they choose to pursue DragonNest in a civil suit.

“It is time we sent a message to these private security forces that they are not above the law!” Frenchetti thundered during his recent press release. “…Archangel failed to notify OPD of the possible break in until after they received officer down signals. This sort of recklessness cannot be tolerated. This is not Celebration! Had OPD been on the scene the perps might not have acted with violence and would not have escaped!”

In a rare move the D.A. has declared he is trying this case himself and bringing his top Assistant Allen Swartzstien, AKA "The Stoneman", as his second chair.

Massive Crash on I-4

Front Page, below fold, Sunday the 25th
While so many are aware of the complete stand-still that Interstate 4 had this morning near the intersection with state road 436, it is only a handful that saw the incident that caused it, though hundreds no doubt heard it.

Last night, two cars were involved in a crash that grew into one of the most severe multi-vehicle cars in the recent memory. Highway Authority video footage recovered from damaged cameras show that a vehicle suffered some kind of motor malfunction in the road approximately half a mile west of 436, which caused it to careen into another vehicle. Over the next seconds, a tractor-trailer collided head-on into the wreckage. Shrapnel from the ensuing explosion flew into all three eastbound lanes, as well as into a handful of vehicles across the median to the westbound lanes. The crash occurred a bit after eleven thirty in the evening, and resulted in the instant deaths of all the drivers involved, as well as the deaths of seventeen other vehicle operators nearby. Over three dozen other vehicles were damaged in the ensuing explosion, with many injuries to said occupant. At least twenty-one had already died by the time authorities and emergency response teams arrived on scene.

Strangely though, considering the massive to vehicles and the deaths of the drivers involved, the road itself was found to have sustained very little actual damage.

Curfew Set for all Minors

Front page, March 25
By Trent Mason
Police and City officials have set a curfew for all minor children under the age of 12 and are asking teenagers to make use of the 'Buddy System', making sure they have a friend or two with them at all times while out after dark. A fine of $500 is set to the parents of any minor child discovered past curfew without their guardians.

This is following a rash of small animal disappearances and the murder of several people. Police are not releasing any details at this time other than to say they have several suspects in custody and several more under consideration.

The 5 Star OC Sheriff Keary and SC Sheriff Slinger have both said they are working closely with the Guardian Angels to help increase manpower coverage outside the cities. Sheriffs Keary and Slinger have gone so far as to issue the Guardians police band radios and training and have hired additional dispatch operators to cover the extra volunteer manpower. The Five Star Sheriff has commented on this expanded reliance on the Guardian Angels by saying, "This does not lessen the importance of our long time volunteer organizations Citizens On Patrol and Neighborhood Watch programs. Indeed the Angels will be organizing themselves under those programs in areas that they cover."

Children’s Diagnosis Yet Unclear; Pediatric Examiner Suspended from Duty

Local and State, Sunday the 25th,
Written by Marcus Broden
Dr. Lucas Turner, a developmental psychologist who was until the end of last year associated with the pediatric department of Florida Hospital of Orlando, has been re-established to his position this last week on a probationary review of his work. The doctor, 42, has worked with the group for twelve years, and his performance has not come into question until the close of last year. Dr. Turner’s suitability was brought into question during last Decembers’ annual reviews which correlate data for census purposes, wherein a report he filed suggested distressing findings as to the well-being of recent newborns.

In part of annual reviews of infant patients, Dr. Turner has examined many dozens of children born at Orlando hospitals within the last six years. The results that he achieved from these tests, ranging from overall physical well-being to cognitive development, were the foundation of many questions which were raised as to his capabilities. Primarily, the doctor made many statements that declared exceptionally unlikely trends in Orlando’s youths that he had overseen.

According to a closer examination of Turner’s tests, at least 59 of the 450 children born at Orlando’s hospitals and clinics between 17 and 24 months ago qualified as severely disabled in mental development, ranging in specifics from loss of bodily control to autistic degeneration. As Autism affects less than 1 in 90,000 people in the population, the reports he filed have brought many concerns as to his ability to test. As a result of this, Turner was relieved of his duty while other doctors reviewed his test data, though the group set to this task has recently filed reports that the statistical information and results of his tests were accurate.

Hospital officials have released an official statement, explaining that further investigation was planned. One official was quoted as saying the following “When equipment shows that one in twenty children tests register as having a disorder that one in ten thousand people suffer, the explanation is simple: The equipment is broken. Every now and then, it happens, and the administrators just don’t catch it. These things happen.”

This statement has been disputed, however, by a small number of individual, namely Dr. Turner himself, given that the children in question have already been re-examined with mixed results.

Dubious Protest Nearly Leads to Riot

Local and State, Tuesday the 27th
Written by Julia Turner
Yesterday afternoon at a little after two in the afternoon, about two hours after the doors of the Park Eleven Theaters on Mills Ave were opened, employees noticed a large number of cars parking in the parking lot. Though this was no early rush of customers, as at least forty people rushed forth from the cars bearing duffle bags and backpacks, coming into groups right outside the large glass doors of the theater.

Splitting quickly into two crowds, each clumped about ten feet from either side of the front doors of the bank, the individuals produced megaphones, placards, and signs. The two crowds then began roaring cheers, jeers, and slogans at each other. Employees were flabbergasted to see dozens of people bearing blank, red signs, facing an equally large crowd holding equally blank, blue signs. Individuals with megaphones fired up the crowds, one side having been reported to call out “What do we want?” to an unintelligible response from the crowd. A number of passing cars even came to a stop to see the two groups seemingly raging at each other.

However, here the tale differs from what was such a comic occurrence at a local bank some weeks ago: Police very quick arrived on the scene and immediately apprehended the most vocal individuals of the crowd, arresting the individuals for assembly outside of a free-speech area without proper permits.

Normally, such flash-mobs have had almost no difficulty in avoiding the ire of authorities, but as of the beginning of the month the issue has become more complex. Unbeknownst to the mob, Orlando’s city hall ceased issuing permits for peaceful assembly on the second of this month, after a half dozen protests surrounding the activities of the Archangel Group quickly led to violent outbursts.

Within only a few minutes of the police arriving, the groups had disbanded, returning quickly and quietly to their vehicles and departed.

Have You Seen These Men?

Front page, March 31
By Trent Mason

These two men are wanted for the murders of three DragonNest Security guards as well as several other murders around Florida and the country. The third Security Officer, who died last night from complications, identified them. The identities of the victims and their families are being withheld at this time out of respect.

Citizens are warned these men are ruthless, armed killers. If they are seen you are asked to contact the police immediately. A reward is being offered for any information leading to their arrest or capture.
